Krystal Jo's

I am belatedly blogging Krystal Jo's on Fenton Road in Flint.  Let's just pretend it was today that we ate there!

Krystal Jo's is a tiny hole-in-the-wall place.  Think "atmosphere"!  Gary had been there for breakfast once with Fred.  Since then, it has been voted the 3rd best hamburger in Genesee County by The Flint Journal.  It's owned by a Kearsley High grad, who is also the cook.

I didn't notice how many tables were in the front, but basically it was just a couple.  They were full, so we had to sit at the counter, something I don't usually do.  But, hey, it's part of the atmosphere!

I see they now have a website:  http://www.krystaljosdiner.webs.com/  Try to overlook the many spelling errors!

Gary had the Hook Burger, which has battered jalapenos, for $7.49.  He liked it much better than the burger he had at Freakin' Unbelievable Burgers.  It was huge, and he took half home.  I had a turkey wrap, but I don't see that on the website menu.  It was very good, though, and I took some home, too.  They both came with fries, but Gary upgraded to onion rings.  Both were excellent!

Soooooo, as I was perched on the stool at the counter, with Gary on my right, a big black guy took the stool to my left. His arms were totally tattooed.  More atmosphere.  I'm leaning for all I'm worth towards Gary!  Often Mr. Big and I were arm-to-arm, but definitely not leg-to-leg!  It was quite humorous, as he was watching America's Got Talent on his cellphone and his keys were laying on the counter.  The only tag on his key ring was from the Genesee District Library!  Quite the Renaissance man.  Everyone was talking to each other, employees and customers.

This locally-owned business has been open for awhile and I hope it continues to do well!

Today we took a drive up to see the Tall Ships in Bay City.  I thought today would be the best day, since maybe people would be at work and the crowds would be down!  However, there were hordes of people, so I can't imagine what the weekend will be like.

Bay City is such a nice town!  We ate at Dockside, formerly Kingfish.  We were disappointed, though, because they had a limited menu for the Tall Ships, as they expected to be so busy.  Not too busy yet today.  There were only 4 sandwiches, including a hamburger and a chicken patty sandwich.  I had the Cuban, which was pulled pork (no flavor added in any way to it) and ham.  Pretty bland sandwich.  Gary had a roast beef and cheddar sandwich.  The view is always enjoyable though.  We should've sat outside.

After eating, of course we had to go across the street to the Nut House.  I had to have my dark chocolate-covered orange peels!

Stopped at Menard's on the way home and got stain/sealant for my new swing that Gary bought for our anniversary.  He got it all stained tonight, too!  The only problem is the swarms of mosquitoes that prevent me from going out and sitting on it, especially this week with temps in the nineties.

July 7, 2013 (Sunday)

After church, Gary wanted to drive to Bay City to eat at that restaurant across from the Nut House on the water.  So how did we end up in Caseville instead?  As usual, I slept too much on the way.  We took lots of pictures of barns and clotheslines, etc.

After driving around for awhile in Caseville, we ate at Baywatch on the Beach, just a little sandwich shop.  I had a really good turkey club pita wrap and Gary had fish & chips.

July 6, 2013 (Saturday)

Had to think what day of the week it is!  Church tomorrow!

I ran to Birch Run to use a $10 certificate at Old Navy for Carter's birthday, which is today.  Katherine's is today also.

Then I went to Bath & Body Works.  I had 4 random products at home, so I made a list of them and bought 4 matching things to go with them for gifts as needed.  Went to WalMart to get a couple things, McD's and then to my mother's.

Tonight we ate at Starlite.  I had the chicken quesadilla, which was very good.  Lots of toppings and covered the whole plate.  Gary had a patty melt and onion rings.

Ate at Twin's tonight, a Greek grinder.

July 4, 2013

Happy 4th of July!  Not too big of a deal with us.  Gary went to Keith's to help him get ready for his rummage sale and to take things there.  Ate at the new Angelo's in Mt. Morris.  Not as nice inside as I expected, having been there previously under other owners.  I ordered a well-done hamburger and that's what I got.  I liked it, but most probably wouldn't.  Crispy!  However, the patty was really, really thin and small and the bun was too big for it.  Gary ordered what the menu said was homemade chili and onion rings.  The chili was obviously canned.  I bet it's not homemade in the summer.  We won't go back.  We can get the same food elsewhere and better.  The prices were actually quite cheap, though.

Then we went to Laura's and checked out her new house, which will be nice.

Didn't go to any actual fireworks displayed, just drove around looking at private ones.

When we got home, it's a good thing I was looking towards the front door as I got out of the car, because a skunk (I think a little one) was walking across our porch!

Gary's 67th b'day.  We ate at Zehnder's, another birthday freebie.  Lots of good stuff and certainly filled us up!  Starts with stollen,  homemade jam (strawberry today), cottage cheese, coleslaw, garlic toast with cheese spread and pate, cranberry relish and chicken noodle soup.  Then comes the main course, which is family style, of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, dressing, buttery noodles with cracker crumb topping and corn with red peppers. Then he had a special birthday sundae and I had vanilla ice cream with orange sherbet.  We switched!

After babysitting, I thought we'd go to Clio to check out the two free concerts.  As we drove in to town, there were people everywhere and we discovered fireworks were the 2nd this year instead of the 4th!  So we just left town and headed for home.

July 1, 2013 (Monday)

Today we ate at Red Robin to use Gary's birthday freebie.  He had chicken bruschetta, which he often gets and loves, with bottomless fries.  I had my favorite pollo fiesta salad.  I do love that, but their greens are often wet with water.  So that dilutes the dressing and can also be bad for the tortilla strips.  He also had a sundae, free for his b'day, with a song.
