The next day at the L'Anse Park was calm and beautiful. We made a salad at the salad bar in Pat's IGA and enjoyed it on the lakeshore. Of course, Gary had to fly his kite!
Tonight around 6:00 I was standing and looking out the living room window at the water (remember this is Lake Superior, a/k/a Keweenaw Bay) and I couldn't figure out if I was seeing one or two ducks, maybe having some kind of altercation. Gary turned to look and said it was an eagle in the water, but we couldn't figure out what it was doing. So I grabbed the camera and we snuck out. As we came around the corner of the cottage, though, it flew off. We walked over that way. It had been about 12 feet out in the water. Just then the neighbor, Mike, came out. He was wondering where his elderly cat was, as he hadn't seen her in a bit and she doesn't spend much time outdoors. Oh-oh. Gary went down to the shore to look for her and found her drenched. Apparently the eagle had grabbed her and that was the altercation I saw in the water! If we hadn't went outside and scared the eagle, the cat might've been gone for good! So fortunately the cat swam the right direction to the shore and Mike scooped her up and took her in his house. Hope she's OK!
