Today is Mary and Margaret's birthday. They were born on their mother's 40th birthday!

We went to Senor Lucky's for dinner, splitting the luncheon fajita special.  Delicious as always!

Today we went to Maryann and Emily's open houses.  Maryann's featured a photobooth, where we could get our pictures taken with her for her scrapbook, and lots of Middle Eastern food.  Emily's was outdoors under a tent, and we saw lots of our friends there.

Happy 32nd birthday to my baby girl, Amanda!

As we drove from our cottage in Aura towards
L'Anse, we came upon several Model A's going
the same way as us!  We thought maybe they
were heading to Pequaming, Henry Ford's old
company town, but they kept right on going.

Can't resist a clothesline!

Later we ate at Applebee's and then drove around Hancock
on roads we'd never traveled before.

We couldn't figure out why anyone would be selling fresh sticky oil!  Then we saw the sad face and realized they meant IT WAS ON THE ROAD!!!

The next day at the L'Anse Park was calm and beautiful.  We made a salad at the salad bar in Pat's IGA and enjoyed it on the lakeshore.  Of course, Gary had to fly his kite!

Tonight around 6:00 I was standing and looking out the living room window at the water (remember this is Lake Superior, a/k/a Keweenaw Bay) and I couldn't figure out if I was seeing one or two ducks, maybe having some kind of altercation.  Gary turned to look and said it was an eagle in the water, but we couldn't figure out what it was doing. So I grabbed the camera and we snuck out.  As we came around the corner of the cottage, though, it flew off.  We walked over that way.  It had been about 12 feet out in the water.  Just then the neighbor, Mike, came out.  He was wondering where his elderly cat was, as he hadn't seen her in a bit and she doesn't spend much time outdoors.  Oh-oh.  Gary went down to the shore to look for her and found her drenched.  Apparently the eagle had grabbed her and that was the altercation I saw in the water!  If we hadn't went outside and scared the eagle, the cat might've been gone for good!  So fortunately the cat swam the right direction to the shore and Mike scooped her up and took her in his house.  Hope she's OK!

Today is the Trout Festival in L'Anse and lots of people are in town and on the water!

We drove down the road to Silver River Falls, which was washed out. I was marveling that there were no mosquitoes there, and then they swarmed around us, so we didn't venture far!  The falls were flowing pretty good though, still with spring run-off.

The Aura Lutheran Church meets once a month, the other services are held in town (L'Anse).

The Aura Jamboree is coming up next month!  Lots of music, food and fun for all ages!

We got to enjoy spring-flowering trees twice this year!  This is the latest we've encountered spring in our area up north.

Forget-me-nots line the road beyond Pequaming.

The old water tower in Pequaming.

A Pequaming sunset.

This is always a pretty landscape, with the hills beyond!  It was taken in the Pelkie area of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Off to the wild blue yonder, or Michigan's UP as it is commonly known!  Left quite early and enjoyed a beautiful trip.  Skipped eating at Big Boy in Marquette, as we weren't hungry yet, and decided to eat in L'Anse.  Nothing sounded good there, so we ended up eating in Baraga at Irene's.  Nothing better than one of their pizzas!

Got to the cabin in plenty of time for Gary to mow the
lawn, Mary to visit, me to clean, and then to watch
the sunset and the hummingbirds at the feeder on
our window.  Good sleep ahead!
