So my mother informed me last night that she is getting her third roommate. Hope this one works out better than the other two. She met her yesterday, although she doesn't move in until Thursday. The lady is 94, and my mother said "She looks old!"  Mmmm, yeah ma, being in your nineties officially makes you old!

Busy day at work.  Love working with the kids though.

Temps are dropping and by the time we went to dinner at Senor Lucky's it was raining lightly and the temp was down to 54!

Making a cake for the shut-in dinners tomorrow: devils food with cream cheese frosting sprinkled lightly with mini chocolate chips.

Friday, September 9, 2011

Today was picture day at school so that made for an out-of-the-ordinary day.  Not much work to do today, though. Monday will be better when the student population stabilizes a little better. Meeting at the ISD Tuesday and edp's with 8th graders Monday thru Wednesday.

Had to do my Friday night babysitting thing. Turned out Amanda had two lessons instead of one. She couldn't find her keys and had to drive my car. She brought me a frappe with a bogo coupon in my car. So dinner was the frappe, string cheese and 4 or 5 pieces of Russell Stover's candy.

Doug had car trouble when leaving work, so Gary had to head down to Auburn Hills at 9:30 p.m. and is planning to tow the car home. Hope it's an easy and cheap repair.

Thursday, September 8, 2011

Tonight we ate at Uno's, and it was delicious! I had the baked stuffed chicken and that is so-o-o-o-o good. Stuffed with small pieces of tomato and broccoli.  Gary had sirloin tips, and that was good, too!

Tomorrow is payday! I'll have something like 5-1/4 hours on my check!

Wednesday, September 7, 2011

Another nice cool day, although it's grey. Every now and then we'd get a sprinkle, but no big deal. Gary went to court in Bay City today to be with his friend who is getting a divorce. He had to be there at 8 or so this morning, and didn't leave (except for lunch) until 4:30! Ridiculous! They're supposed to go back tomorrow, but Gary won't be going as he will be working the food pantry at church.  He called me again when he got off the expressway at Bridgeport and we met at Twin's for pizza since it was getting late. Barely had time for that!

My mother's new roommate kept her up last night.  This is ridiculous also!  Ma weighs 102 now, down from 107 a couple weeks or less ago.

Tuesday, September 6, 2011

Back to school, back to work and back to making money! Had a good day and nice to see the kids again. Plenty to do.

Ate at Classic Coney Island tonight. Since it's chilly today (never out of the fifties), I had a corned beef and Swiss sandwich with a side of coleslaw. Put a little on the sandwich, I just didn't want it dripping with it like it might have been if they did it. Comfort food at it's best.

Monday, September 5, 2011

Nice and cool today! Didn't get out of the fifties! It was 91 Friday and 84 Saturday. I hope the nineties are gone for the year!

I shortened 3 pair of pants for Madilyn this morning. Nothing like waiting until Labor Day when school starts tomorrow!

Gary took me to Olive Garden today, he said as a "day before school starts treat". Actually, it was because they started advertising the never-ending pasta bowl special today! I had Mediterranean Chicken; it was ok.

Then we went to Amanda's to deliver Madilyn's shortened pants. I helped her make dinner.

I've got my toenails polished and should get to bed at 10:00! We'll see if that actually happens!

Sunday, September 4, 2011

Went to church a little early, because we were greeters and had to get communion ready. Talked to Nancy, Deb, Faye and Sandy. Then we had blueberry pancakes and bacon at Naples in Montrose. They are good, but the restaurant is a dive. Yucky carpet, and the bathroom wasn't that great either.

After we got home, I left for Amanda's and helped cleaning up her old house for a bit. Then I took Madilyn back-to-school shopping at Old Navy in Birch Run.  I got her 2 pair of flip flops, cute grey sweats with purple trim and a purple striped polo.  The whole outfit makes her look nice and slim.

I got a frappe and she got a shake at McD.  Her family was at my house.  I pinned up her pants and I have 3 pair to shorten right away.

Went to my mom's.  Her roommate has adjusted a little, but can't hear.  Her family didn't visit her today!  So she didn't get her hearing aid back with new batteries!  She was worried she was disturbing us.  Poor lady.  Hope this works out!

Saturday, September 3, 2011

Had a profitable day today! Gary turned gold coins and jewelry in at the coin shop in Davison and did quite well!

I did a lot of cleaning in the bathroom.

When Gary got home we ate at Tom's Classic Coney Island.  Then I had to get communion supplies at VG's.  Difficult finding the right grape juice, and even more difficult finding a loaf of unsliced bread.  Settled on an Italian loaf.  I shouldn't stress out about it so much.

Then I rushed to my mother's.  Her new roommate is there (98 years old) and is crying all the time, because she doesn't want to be there!  That better end right away!  My mom can't take care of another one!

Then we went out to church to change altar cloths.  It was swelteringly hot as I did the birthday board and drew a picture on it.

Read my Shania Twain autobio for awhile and IM'd with my sister.  Now to get to bed during this storm!

Friday, September 2, 2011

Well, we didn't get to go out to dinner last night, because I had to be at the school open house and Gary had to cook at the revival.  So today when we took Laura to work, we had lunch at Senor Lucky's. Also ran into Doogie's (bought nothing), Wal-Mart (bought bananas and used a coupon for a free candy bar after buying one) and VG's (oatmeal and cottage cheese).  At 3:30 a Richfield Twp. cop showed up in our driveway. Apparently the guy whose mailbox Gary hit when the trailer detached from our car yesterday, called the cops today! Gary though everything was OK since when Gary took fix-it supplies back, the guy had already fixed it. So now he has to go to court on a civil infraction! Stupid! So then he went to the guy's house and asked him what he owed him, and the guy asked for $30. That's just great.

I babysat while Amanda worked and took the kids macaroni and cheese and cottage cheese. Emily fell asleep in her highchair and slept most of the time. I unloaded her dryer and started another load in the washer and dryer. Came home and watched All My Children and a Melissa and Joey.

Thursday, September 1, 2011

September is here! Unfortunately, it was hot today and will be hotter tomorrow.  Supposed to cool down then.

Doug and Gary moved the Rodmans more today.  I had a snack wrap at McD for lunch.  I had to be at the school for the open house at 3:15 and worked until 6:30.  Then I drove through McD and had a hamburger!  Then on to my mother's.  Got home and got the flowers watered just before dark.  Gary isn't home from the revival yet.  He had to make macaroni and cheese with hot dogs.  His cousin, Barb, from Pennsylvania died yesterday.  I haven't had a chance to tell him yet.

Wednesday, August 31, 2011

Last day of the month, and here comes September! Yay for back to work and fall weather and colors!

Today I had to get up early for an 8:00 meeting at work. Done by 9:30 and went home with an apple fritter which tastes so good with Diet Coke.  Gary helped Doug move today (all day).  I had to take their fridge stuff to the new place and their very heavy table was in the back of my car.  So I had to stay their several hours until the guys arrived to unload it.  While they were pulling the trailer (not sure if it was full or not), they were driving along and the trailer passed them!  Took out two mailboxes!  Gary told the man there that they'd be back to replace the posts and fix them, but when they got back the older man had already constructed new posts and topped them with new mailboxes!

We ate a sandwich from Subway and then I dropped Gary off at the revival on my way to my mom's.  I treated myself to a small caramel frappe on the way home and enjoyed it while I watched the rest of All My Children.  That show ends in a few weeks so they're wrapping up all the storylines.

Tuesday, August 30, 2011

I was pleased to have my pictures of the Iverson Snowshoe shop/factory chosen on pasty.com today as their pictures of the day!  http://pasty.com/cam/index.html  Lots of interesting comments on them!

In the afternoon, I picked up Amanda and Emmy to go sign up the kids for school in Davison. The other kids went to the playground with Papa.  Pulled in our driveway before heading to KFC in Clio and discovered Emmy's carseat in the backseat.  Amanda needed it to take Gracie to soccer at 6:00, so back to Davison we headed.  Then to Clio to eat!  Dropped Gary off for the revival, and I went on to my mom's.  I got back to the revival at it's end.

Mom's roommate will be with her for one more night before going to an assisted living for Alzheimer's patients.  Ma was up with her all last night!  She'll have 3 nights' rest before the new roommate moves in, a lady over 100 years old!  I hope this works out!

Monday, August 29, 2011

I'm loving this weather we're having! Mostly highs in the seventies, sunny and bright.

This morning I had my hair appointment, and that always feels good.  Then I had a hamburger and Diet Coke for Lunch.  I watched All My Children (almost at it's end!) and Gary took Laura to her doctor's appointment.  They went to Sam's, and I expected him to be home for dinner, so I didn't get any at the time expected.  Then we went to Amanda's to load up my car with her stuff for the new place.  After going to VG's, I went to my mom's, then on to Amanda's.  We put everything away except the clean clothes.  Then I had to drive home in the dark.

Tomorrow maybe I can run all the errands with her: Secretary of State, Consumers, Dr. Karr's for shot records, two schools, etc.

Sunday, August 28, 2011

Today we had to go to two churches (instead of our own): Richfield and Otisville. We were promoting Thetford's tent revival this week. Afterwards we ate at Classic Coney Island in Genesee.  I had the Greek Chicken Pita, which I've always been getting lately, and Gary had the classic hash. He brought home his leftovers and added red peppers and a pound of hamburger for dinner with cottage cheese.

I napped a bit in the afternoon. Afterwards, I watered all the flowers.  Then I went to my mom's and watched Lawrence Welk with her.

Saturday, August 27, 2011

This morning, after Gary's men's meeting at Maria's, we went to Amanda's and loaded up what we could in my car to take to her new place.

For dinner I heated pasties from the freezer. They were overdone, though. The directions on pasty.com say to bake at 350 for 50 minutes. Microwaving always works better for us, even though the instructions say that is not a good way to heat them. We prefer it, I think about 7 minutes.  Had them with poppyseed coleslaw from VG's.

Later we walked to McDonald's where I had a strawberry sundae with nuts and Gary had a senior coffee with triple cream!

Then we watched the Netflix dvd of True Grit.  Sandy called in the middle of it, but that worked out find.  I could still pick up on the plot, otherwise I probably would've fell asleep!

Friday, August 26, 2011

Amanda is slowly moving into her new trailer in Davison.  We took Laura to work as her car isn't running well, grabbed a bite at the Taco Bell drive-thru, and then went to Amanda's to see her new digs.  Very nice!

Went to Twin's for dinner and had a pizza with only green peppers on it, and that was just fine.  Saving fat calories without sacrificing flavor.

I watched my tivo'd What Not To Wear while Gary went to the first football game.

Thursday, August 25, 2011

Gary had his appt. today with Dr. Osama, the kidney doctor.  He didn't have to be there forever like he did last time, when he spent two hours waiting.  Then we ate at Logan's, doing the 2 for $13.99 thing.  Gary had the encrusted steak of some sort and I had the Logan's chicken.  All was good.

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

We ate at Senor Lucky's today, having Stacy as our waitress.  Ma had her first doctor appt. with Dr. Paez at Elizabeth's.  He was very thorough and I think he'll do!  I had to be there from 9 a.m. until almost noon though.  He spent about an hour and a half with her.

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

Going home today.  It's been beautiful weather every day up here: mostly sunny and about 80 degrees.  We ate early today, at the Marquette Applebee's.  I had Fiesta Lime Chicken and Gary had the upgraded $7.99 lunch special of a spinach and shrimp salad and tomato basil soup.  Lots of construction on Highway 2 while I was driving.  Got home at 9:30, as expected.

Ate

Sunday, August 21, 2011

Tonight we ate at Irene's Pizza.  Always good!

Saturday, August 20, 2011

Today we ate in the afternoon at Harbor Haus.

Friday, August 19, 2011

I don't remember what all we did today, but "dinner" was a turtle sundae in Chassell!

Thursday, August 18, 2011

Today we made our annual August trek to the cottage on Keweenaw Bay. Beautiful weather: sunny, warm and breezy!  We ate at Subway in St. Ignace (but west of the Bridge) for the first time, and that was good.  Then we traveled on to Seney.
We ate dinner at Big Boy in Marquette, as always. Marquette knows how to do flowers right!  We saw a "tall ship" in Marquette Harbor.

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

This afternoon Gary and I went to the Genesee County Fair. Saw the Rodmans leaving as we were coming. Walked around checking out the rides, the animals, and drinking freshly-squeezed lemonade.  It was only about 82, but the sun was hot, hot, hot! Then we went to that drive-thru on Pierson and Jennings. Nothing great there, and we ended up just getting a total of two coneys and a pop.

After I went to my mom's, we drove down Saginaw Street to Back to the Bricks and then back north. It was crazy down there: miles and miles of cars and people and I could imagine lots of crime going on as it was so dark before 9:00. On Facebook now there is a report of a 4-year-old boy being kidnapped in Burton. Don't know if it's true or not.

August 15, 2011

Lovin' this weather and I get a lot accomplished! Went to Twin's in Clio for dinner at about 3:30. Tonight is the car cruise there and we expected to see lots of cars early in anticipation of Back to the Bricks in Flint starting tomorrow. I think it was the usual number of classic cars, though, which is still a lot.  We split the chicken strip dinner and brought a couple strips (planks, actually) home.

I left for my mom's at 6:15, getting a small caramel frappe at McD on the way. My mom seems to like it best when I go at my usual time, but sometimes I need to switch it up and go there while I'm in the area to save gas.  She got her new TV in her room tonight, so that was nice.

Then I came home and fertilized front and backyard flowers.  When Gary got home, he called me outside to see a spider building it's web after dark.  I had just walked through there an hour earlier!  I think it was the hugest spider I'd ever seen around here!  Gary took a picture of it and then followed my directions (I hope) to drown it with Raid and not let it fall on his shoes and come in the house!

Sunday, August 14, 2011

It was cool enough this morning to wear my brown pants & cami with the matching jacket to church. Love this weather! No humidity either! I was presented with a prayer shawl for my mom during the service today, a pretty and soft purple. Leaves fuzz everywhere though, so I should have took it home and washed it before I gave it to her.  We went to visit her after church and woke her up. I had to decide whether to go early or make a special trip out later. I'm going through so much gas!

Then we drove through the Clio Taco Bell and got 99 cent nachos that were on special. We took them to the Clio Park to eat in the car, and it started pouring! After a bit, we went home and I did laundry and tried to nap. But, as usual, the phone kept ringing and Gary was noisy. He made Shepherd's Pie in a cast iron skillet for dinner. Delish!

We went to McD later and the Rodmans met us there for ice cream.

Tomorrow I have to take my car in for repairs.

Saturday, August 13, 2011

Saturday, August 13, 2011

Woke up at 6 a.m. and was surprised it was totally dark outside! Surprised in the same way last night when I looked outside at 9:15 and it was dark.

I turned in my mother's keys to her apt. this morning and then went to her new home at Elizabeth's and hung out for a short time before we left for Battle Creek for A.J.'s 16th birthday party.  It was nice to see everybody and eat cake!  Got to see Willie's one-year-old son, Billy, for the first time.  I have 4 great-grandchildren and this is the first time I've seen any of them!  Willie and Amy seem to be really good parents.  Amy works and Willie is the house-husband.

Before getting on the expressway for that trip, we spied disassembled wind turbines on train cars for miles.  They were still there when we got home at almost 11 p.m.  The trip home took way too long.  Detours, windows fogged on the inside and outside, wrong turns, etc.

Nice cool weather!

Friday, August 12, 2011

I need to get motivated to maintain this blog! I've been busy, though, with all it takes moving my mom from the hospital to the nursing home to the assisted living home. Things should calm down soon, and then what will be my excuse?!!!

This morning my son-in-law came by and gave me the money he owed me for the $93 worth of gas I put in his car and the $20 their phone bill went over last month. Then I went to the post office and drove through McD and got a snack wrap and a Diet Coke. Then my sister called me to meet her and Beth at McD, so I took my pop and went back over! That was nice. After that, I went home and hung out with Amanda and the kiddos.

Later we went to Twin's and got too much food, since Gary wanted to get the special which was $2 more than what we would have gotten anyways. I don't like doing that, though, because it added size to the pizza plus one more topping plus bread sticks!

Then we came home and I turned around and went back to Clio to my mom's. She was feeling badly today so did not take her morning Lasix. Her bp was up also. Tonight she said she felt better and owed it to the lack of Lasix. She's been there one week and only gotten two nights' good sleep due to her roommates roaming around in the night (and once yelling "Fire!". She saw the tiny red light on ma's phone base and thought it was a fire!).

Then I went on to Birch Run and Vanity Fair to get underwear and a top on sale at Bon Worth. Sure I don't have money to spend, but I just tell myself it's less than Gary spends on all his breakfast, lunch and dinner dates with friends!

Had a quiet evening while Gary was at his meeting. Watched my tivo'd All My Children and Dr. Oz.

I'm thoroughly enjoying this cooler weather and I'm certainly more productive! It has usually been getting up to about 82, but with low humidity.  Can't wait to get up north soon!

Tuesday, July 12, 2011

Used my Seize The Deal coupon at Thompsonville Turkey Farm for lunch today. $5 for a $10 coupon.  Gary and I both had wraps, his was the Fiesta and mine was the Classic. His featured breaded and fried turkey and mine was various deli turkeys.

Went to visit my mom tonight at her nursing home, nursing a frappe from McD on the way (small caramel, always). $1.00 off coupon for that. Stopped at the Rodmans on the way home and hung out for a bit while the kids were getting ready for bed.

Sunday, July 10, 2011

Sunday, July 10, 2011

Amanda and the kidlets didn't go to church at our church this morning, as she didn't feel well because of allergies when she woke up.  She felt better a bit later and went to her other church. When we got there, Mary was lying face down on the floor, because she'd tripped on the rug.  The ambulance came and they got her up, and she seemed the same as usual.  Bonnie did a sermon on Music in the Church, as Karen is away at pastor's school.

We ate at Classic Coney Island in Genesee after church.  I had my usual Greek Chicken Pita.  I haven't been deviating from that much lately, but everything is good there.  I eat the sandwich innards with a fork and then cut the pita in half to eat it.  Gary had blueberry pancakes.

We ended up going to Twin's later, splitting a chicken strip dinner.  We always think of it as a chicken plank dinner.  I cut my planks into two or three strips.    We get so many, that after I eat one or two and Gary eats his fill, we still have at least two more to take home.    Jen brought us a large slice of cheesecake topped with chocolate to split.

Then we stopped in to see my mother at the nursing home.  I brought her a Vernor's from Twin's, because she loves ginger ale lately. She's doing well and getting stronger, but I'm sure she's bored out of her mind.  Beth and Randy came after a bit, so we could visit with them, too.  Melvin and Glen had been by earlier, but that was in the afternoon.

Still working on getting rid of the skunks to no avail.

Saturday, July 9, 2011

Tonight I just had a hamburger and Diet Coke from McDonald's on my way to visit my mother in the nursing home.  After that Gary grabbed a $5 footlong BMT sub on flatbread, so I had about a fourth of that as we sat at the north end of Branch Road looking out over Mott Lake.

Friday, July 8, 2011

Tonight we used another of Gary's birthday coupons obtained online.  We went to Ruby Tuesday's in Fenton, as the Flint one is out-of-business.   We always like Ruby Tuesday's, and it is our favorite salad bar around.

Gary had a burger, maybe it was the All American Burger, which was free.  After partaking of the salad bar and eating his snap peas, he could only eat half the burger, so that came home for later.

I had chicken fresco, which was topped with sliced tomatoes, lemon butter, and a splash of balsamic vinaigrette.  I ordered it with mashed potatoes and green beans.  The green beans could have been better, maybe seasoned with a little garlic butter instead of being plain.  I should just get the soup and salad bar, because that is more than filling.  I used a 25% off coupon for my meal, which I'd gotten in the paper this week.

Thursday, July 7, 2011

Tonight we ate at Applebee's.  Gary is hooked on their $5.99 soup and salad lunch, which he upgrades to $7.99 and gets the spinach and shrimp salad along with his tomato basil soup.  I thought I'd try something different tonight and got the orange chicken.  I didn't like it very well.  The orange flavor was too sweet and cloying, so it was a disappointment for Thursday Night, Date Night.  Oh well!

To catch up, Mom went into the hospital Saturday morning after being disoriented and weak.  They said she had low potassium (sometimes it's too high) and sodium and was dehydrated.  No stroke or heart attack, as we were wondering if she'd had a stroke.  Alexa called Sandy when she left for work that morning, and Sandy called me.  Gary and I went down and mom was sitting on the toilet calling for help.  I offered to lift her, but she didn't want me to hurt myself so she allowed Gary to come in and help. He carried her in to bed and she slept for awhile.  I decided I should call her doctor, and he said to take her in to the hospital, so I called for the ambulance.

She was in the hospital until Wednesday, July 6, when her doctor gave the order for her to go into the nursing home.  No idea for how long.  We have a meeting with them in two weeks and will know more then.  We'd like for her to go from there into assisted living if there is an opening and she'll go along with that.  The price is about the same as she is now paying for apartment rent, Lifeline, electric, caregivers, food, etc.

Saturday, June 25, 2011

I made a run to Vanity Fair at the Birch Run Outlet Mall this morning to exchange the black jeans I bought there awhile ago. I meant to buy twill pants, but somehow forgot what I was doing that day and ended up with the jeans!  So today I got the pants I wanted, plus black capris.  I had bought black capris at Penney's, St. John's Bay, and didn't like them because they were snug at the hem when I sat.  I liked my khakis (Lee) from Vanity Fair, so I got them in black, too.

Then we went to Stacie's open house.  Good food!  We had pork barbeque, coleslaw (the dressing tasted like potato salad dressing and was unique and delicious), baked beans with lima beans in addition to the regular, cheesy potatoes, and more.

My mom was not feeling well today and had her walker handy for trips to the bathroom. I don't think I've ever seen her do that before.  Yesterday she did well on her beauty shop day and got her perm.  But the day before that she wasn't that great either.  She thinks it's her heart and she's probably right.

Tomorrow is the first day of funeral home visitation for the mom of my just-graduated friend, Stephanie.  It was supposed to be Stephanie's open house.  That is now being planned for July 9 and I will help make something.

Watched Love and Other Drugs, a Netflix movie.  Gary liked it, but I was kinda bored.

Friday, June 24, 2011

Friday, June 24, 2011

I went to Kohl's this morning, hoping to find my favorite Lee capris in black on sale. They were all out though, so I'll have to try Vanity Fair soon in Birch Run.  Also, the deals I expected for Carter's 11th birthday weren't there.  Bought nothing, and I had a 30% off coupon!

Went to Big Lots on the way home and did better.  They had my discontinued Almay eye shadow for $2 each!  I bought the last two in the color I needed, called Steel, a shimmery, silvery, grey.  I also was able to get three plastic water lilies for the pond at $1 each, just like last year.  Got a few other necessities, too.

Ate dinner at Taco Bell with Gary and then we went to Penney's to use his $15 birthday certificate.  He got $80 dress pants on sale for $29, and then minus the $15.  I got Carter two striped polos for his birthday.

The skunks made their appearance in the backyard.

I'm reading Dear John, better than the movie, which was boring.

Thursday, June 23, 2011

Today I was looking forward to lunch at Senor Lucky's in Davison with my friends from high school in the sixties: Pam and Ora.  We spent two hours gabbing and gossiping and had lots of fun.

Then Gary wanted to go out to dinner, after all it is Thursday! I wasn't hungry, though. We went to Michael Angelo's on Davison Road and split a lasagna dinner.  Normally their lasagna is the best I've ever had, but tonight it was the worst! Seemed like it was about two or three noodles stacked without much in between. Didn't even fill half the tin pan, whereas normally it fills it and almost overflows!

About 9 p.m. I got an IM on Facebook saying the mother of a just-graduated senior girl had passed away suddenly, probably from a heart attack.  Another devastating loss to one of our seniors this year.  Out of 36 graduates, three have lost one or both parents.

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

This morning Gary had to go to Bay City to be with a friend, and I took Lisa to her doctor's appointment.  However, when we got there, there was apparently a mix-up, so she didn't have it.

A bit later all the Rodmans (except Madilyn) came over while Amanda applied for jobs on my computer.

Then, of course, Gary wanted to go "get a bite".  But I opted to cook and made creamy basil pasta (with sundried tomatoes and peas added) and turkey burgers (no buns).

I went to my mom's tonight, even though my sister was there.  I figured I might as well do her pills since it's Tuesday, and my sister will be there all week.

Monday, June 13, 2011

Monday, June 13, 2011

We've been having great weather, temps in the low 70's and no rain, and that should be continuing for a few days.  I gardened this morning.  Then we went to Senor Lucky's for lunch/dinner at 2:30.  Gary had a taco salad with ground beef and no shell, and I had an ala carte shredded chicken burrito with no beans (rice is substituted).  It was PACKED with lots of shredded chicken.  Our waitress was Stacy, so all was good!

Then we went to Menard's and I got a new hose and a 6-pack of marigolds and a 6-pack of something else, I forgot what, but it's white!  So then we came home and I weeded, planted, watered, fed, etc.

Later, the usual skunk was in the backyard with my two cats sitting on either side of it watching it eat grass!  I wish I'd thought to get a picture!

Tomorrow I take Lisa to the doctor in the morning.

We were supposed to wear red to church today for Pentecost, but I didn't.  Gary and Amanda sang, which was apparently planned last night without my knowledge, so I had to grab Clark and hold him back.  Gracie was no problem, but Amanda sang holding Emmy.  If I knew in advance, I would've had a plan!  Then Gary said we were taking the kids to Dalton Airport to watch the planes.  Well, I thought that meant we were sitting in the car hoping for a plane to take off.  Again, unbeknownst to me, it was their fly-in and a big thing.  So we were all in our church clothes with no jackets or anything warm on our arms and it was in the low fifties, so we froze.  Annnnnnnd, of course he's known about this for days, but didn't tell me!  Then we went to McD in Mt. Morris for lunch.

Lazed around in the afternoon, not accomplishing anything.  Then Gary wanted to go to Twin's for a salad, so we did.

Spent a lo-o-o-o-ong time uploading photos to my gallery on pastycam.  Mary wanted to use some of my new photos on there.  She saw them on Facebook, but I was going to put some on pasty cam tonight anyway.  It was a difficult process, as it would only let me put on one at a time.  The multiple thing wasn't working.  So I laboriously did each one of more than twenty one by one.  I read an entire Family Circle while I waited for each to load!

Saturday, June 11, 2011

Another nice day with temperatures in the 70's.  I went to the bank to deposit my last check for the summer, to the library to return two books (Tatum O'Neal's autobio & Season's Revenge, by Henry Kisor, who writes novels about the U.P.).  Then I used a bogo coupon for frappes at McD and took one to Amanda.  She dumped all the three older kids drawers on the living room floor and was sorting through all the clothes to get rid of some.  Whew!  She had at least two garbage bags of little boy's clothes for Laura's new baby and three or more to be dumped at Goodwill or Salvation Army.  We sorted for hours!  Luckily, Emmy slept most of the time.

I made ham, mashed potatoes and fresh asparagus from Lake Linden for dinner.  Really good!

Thirty years ago this morning,  I was giving birth!  Happy birthday, Amanda!  Amanda and the kidlets came over and hung out today while she checked on a job.  The kids made their mom a chocolate pie with Oreo crust.  Gracie wanted blueberries on top, so that's what happened!

We took Jill truffles from the Jampot for her retirement, so we ran out of time to go to Twin's.  We went to Classic Coney Island in Genesee instead.  Gary had liver and onions and I had a Greek chicken pita.  I usually have a Greek chicken something!

Then I went to mom's and did her week's pills and wrote a couple checks for her.  Brought her laundry home.

Spent the rest of the night uploading pictures on Facebook.  Still have to do the pastycam ones this weekend.

Thursday, June 9, 2011

Began the long trip home from the U.P. today, made even longer by the sidetrip Gary wanted to take to the town of Republic and Republic Mine.  We ate at The Galley in St. Ignace.  Nice enough view but the food was just OK.  Read the entire way from the Mackinac Bridge, my library autobio of Tatum O'Neal.  That was a good book!

Temps in the 80's today have now dropped to 48! Turtle sundae at the Baraga Drive-In was the best I've ever had!

Tuesday, June 7, 2011

Stayed at the cottage relaxing until 4:00, when Gary wanted to go to St. Vinny's to buy a belt. Then we found out they closed at 4:00! Try again tomorrow. Sitting at Subway in L'anse splitting a black forest ham sub. Now where shall we go for a drive?

Monday, June 6, 2011

Today was the day of our trip to Copper Harbor. It was a beautiful, sunny and warm day.  Of course, our destination was dinner at the Harbor Haus.  We ordered our usual favorites, with Gary ordering the planked whitefish, and I ordered the beef rouladen.

We sat on the dock for awhile, enjoying the weather and waiting for the Isle Royale Queen to return.  We could hear it coming for a half hour!  When it came into view and got closer, the waitstaff of the restaurant came outside and did their nightly can-can.

Sunday, June 5, 2011

Another beautiful, sunny day. Temps in the 70's. Went to L'anse for lawnmower gas, groceries and cleaning supplies at Family $. Lunch was from the $6 salad bar at Pat's IGA. Restful afternoon after the mowing and cleaning. Gary spent a long time on the swing overlooking Keweenaw Bay, while I read Birds and Blooms. Lots more hummingbirds than we've seen in years. Now I'm surprised to find wi-fi at Irene's Pizza!

I'm not sure what the yellow flowers are that are lining the road to our cottage.  I meant to look more closely, but I forgot!

Glorious day for a trip to the UP! In Marquette at Big Boy right now. Sunny with temps in the eighties. Enjoyed our time at Seney; took pictures of the ospreys in their nest and swans.

Monday, May 2, 2011

No school (work) for me today, as it was a Professional Development day for the teachers. Lazed around for a suitable amount of time.  Went to Senor Lucky's for a late lunch.   I had my usual delicious ala carte burrito (with shredded chicken, but no beans).  $2.99.  Gary had chicken fajitas from the lunch menu at $7.99, with enough left over to take home for another meal.  Then we went to Kmart, and he got garden soil for his dahlias.

I spent time paying bills.

Had a caramel frappe on the way to my mom's.  Watched Dancing With The Stars when I got home.  Gas prices are up to $4.29 almost everywhere.

Sunday, May 1, 2011

Pretty nice day today! Went to church, no coat needed. Afterwards, we drove to the Otisville McDonald's. I had a McChicken.  We'll see how many Weight Watcher's points that was! Went for a drive in the country.  Later we went to Carter's first BMX race ever.  He came in third out of six in the first heat, but won the second heat! Therefore, he got to skip the next two races and just do the final.  He came in second in his division for the day!  Temps were in the seventies with the sun beating down on us.  I'll probably have a sunburned face.

On the way back, Gary snapped this shot of a posing goose at The Mounds.  He didn't know there was a turtle in the picture!

We ate at Tom's (The Classic Coney Island) in Genesee. Gary had liver and onions and I had a BLT pita.

Good day all around, and I have a day off tomorrow!

Sunday, April 3, 2011

We lost our internet connection last night, and I think it was due to trying to download a song on Vuze.  The song sent me to imesh, and I think that's what did it.  Couldn't get on the internet after that and couldn't fix the problem.  I did an AVG system scan and the only error (warning) it showed mentioned Google Chrome.  I was able to delete that error, but it didn't help.  So after church this morning, I found a back way onto the internet and that worked.  I clicked on Google Chrome on my desktop and then I could Google Facebook or any other website I wanted and it worked.  However, all my tool bars were gone, as were my favorites.  When I went to sign into FB, the only email address left from my long list was Layna's!  Awhile later I remembered about System Restore.  So I found that and clicked that I wanted to restore it to April 1 and IT WORKED!!!  Everything was back to normal! Hope it stays OK.

Gary had to preach this morning and Madilyn sang God of This City.  They also did it at Genesee.

In the afternoon, I was on the computer, and there was a facebook post from Jodie about the snow.  I turned around and it was snowing hard.  After awhile, it turned to rain and made a big mess of deep slush on the roads, and it was 32 degrees.  I had to go pick up Amanda & the kids to go to Oregon Church for a Lenten service and it was white-knuckle driving!  Then I went back & picked up Gary and the potluck dish and he drove on to Oregon.  People said there were cars in the ditch everywhere, and I also heard about overturned cars along the expressway.  Good food at the potluck.  The kids got rambunctious, though, during the musical program.

I did lots of Amanda's wash as her washer has quit.  Then paid bills for April.

Saturday, April 2, 2011

Enjoyed sleeping in on the couch this morning, after getting up about 5:00 a.m.  After Facebook and FarmTown, I took my shower, got ready for the day, and did some work around the house.

After a bit, we went to Logan's for our lunch/dinner combo.  We got there about 2:40, and I realized the 2/$13.99 didn't start until 3:00.  So we enjoyed the peanuts, pop and rolls until we could order, a little before 3:00.  I ordered my usual Logan's grilled chicken, but Gary tried something new.  He got the bacon and cheddar encrusted steak and thought it was delicious.  We were wary, though, because two men had told us lately that their steaks there were garbage.  In fact, everything was good, and our bill was under $20.  I also had over $7 on a giftcard from Christen to use up.

Then we went to the Clio WalMart to pick up a few things.  I got an eight-pack of Easter cards to send to shut-ins soon.

My sister is now back from Florida and arrived at my mom's at about 6:00 p.m., so Mom will be happy to have them for two or three days.

I'm enjoying watching the eaglecam from Decorah, Iowa.  Good closeup view of the nest.  I just remembered about eaglecams yesterday and was happy to find that one, which had three eggs in it about to hatch!  Well, the first one hatched early this morning, and I'm waiting for the second.  Addictive watching!

April 1, 2011

Last day of work before Spring Break! Everyone is excited for that, and many staff members and students have trips planned.  Not me, though.  I'm content to stay home and catch up on things.

Met the Rodmans (minus Doug, who was working) at Twin's tonight.  We ordered two pizzas, plus cottage cheese for Madilyn.  Gary and I had a BLT Pizza, but it was greasy on the pan under the crust from the bacon.  Don't think I'd order that again.  Everyone else had pepperoni pizza.  We sat in the front room, and that worked out well.

Monday, February 28, 2011

Back to work and somewhat icy out, but the school sidewalks were reasonably ok. Went to KFC for dinner as Gary wanted their pot pie/pop special ($3.49).  It's regular $6.49!  I used an internet coupon for my chicken strip dinner and that was $4.--.  They were out of biscuits (just as well), so they substituted a side, and I chose macaroni & cheese for tomorrow.  With my dinner I got mashed potatoes and green beans.  The girl accidentally put coleslaw on my plate instead of the green beans, so I ended up getting both.  In other words, I got two extra sides!

Sunday, February 27, 2011

The snow was beautiful on the way to church this morning!

We ate at Rally's, but I didn't get anything except my Diet Coke.  Had a piece of Dutch apple pie at church, and didn't want to rack up anymore Weight Watcher's points.  Then we went for a short ride, but the prettiest area in the snow was back by our church!

I made vegetable soup for dinner again.  Delicious and only 1 pt. per serving!

Had lots of checks to write for my mom.  Then it was Oscar time.  Didn't see much of it though.

Saturday, February 26, 2011

Went to watch the girls cheer at their basketball games at United Brethren.  They do so well!  Then I went to Penney's to get the purse I wanted, using a $10 off a $25 coupon, so it was $25.  I also picked up a purple bathroom rug for $14.99 (regular $26).  The man in line in front of me wanted to check it out for me, giving me his $10 discount, since he didn't have enough of a purchase to get that on his own! So I ended up paying only $5!

Then we went to the chicken dinner at church with Amanda & the kids.  Pretty good.

Snowing beautifully and the trip to my mom's was the slipperiest ever!

February 25, 2011

Ate at Twin's, our usual Friday night haunt.  We had blt pizza and I limited myself to 3 pieces.  Good stuff.

Thursday, February 24, 2011

Ate at Applebee's tonight with Christen & Laura's kids.  I was anxious to try one of the new 550 calorie meals and had the chicken portobello (even though I don't like mushrooms).  It was very good and filling.

Wednesday, February 2, 2011

Snowing and blowing!  Bushels of fun!  We ended up with about 10", according to tv news.  I'd say much more in Genesee, and also blowing into 4' drifts.  I stayed in the entire day.

Tuesday, February 1, 2011

We're all anxiously awaiting the predicted snowstorm! Started snowing at about 7:00 p.m., just as Channel 12 said.  U of M-Flint cancelled their classes after 4:00 p.m., announcing that at noon!  Genesee, and every other school district for miles around, also cancelled for Wednesday.

Monday, January 31, 2011

Monday, January 31, 2011

The talk today was all about the impending snowstorm! We're supposed to get an inch or two tonight, but a separate snowstorm Tuesday night is supposed to dump about a foot of snow on us!  Blowing and drifting will create drifts of two to four feet!  Woo-hoo!

After school we went to Billy's Bistro in Otisville for dinner.  The Cregars had told us about it.  What a cute place!  I had the turkey reuben panini, with a side of homemade macaroni and cheese.  My sandwich contained freshly-roasted turkey, Swiss cheese, coleslaw, avocado and Thousand Island dressing. Very good and filling.  Gary had an enormous bowl of beef noodle soup, with the same side as mine, and a slice of twisted rye bread.  He said the soup tasted like beef stroganoff in broth, a good thing!  We also purchased a homemade "energy bar".  Delicious!  It had coconut in it, and maybe apples.  I don't see how anything that heavy could be called an energy bar though!  Be sure to "like" Billys Bistro on Facebook.

Sunday, January 30, 2011

Went for a drive towards Otisville McDonald's after church.  Got some new cow pictures in the snow!

Gracie's 4th b'day party was at Huckleberry.  I was surprised to see Lisa come with Laura!  Nice to have Layna & Carter there, too.

Then I went home and paid bills before going to my mother's.

Saturday, January 29, 2011

Gary went to his United Methodist Men's meeting up the road at Maria's Restaurant.  I drove separately to watch the girls (Madilyn and Gracie) cheer at their first basketball game.  The roads had plenty of snow covering them, and that was a surprise to everyone it seemed!

Then I went on to Penney's to spend my $10 jcp reward before the end of the month.  I ended up with a pretty silver bracelet.  It was, I think, 30% off minus the $10.  I paid around $2.

Friday, January 28, 2011

Picked up Gary from the hosital after work today.  The stress test and x-rays were basically good.  Enzyme count was fine, too.

So we went to Twin's for dinner, pepperoni and green pepper pizza.  Then Gary went to the basketball game and I went to my mom's.

Thursday, January 27, 2011

Gary woke me at 2 a.m. with a severe pain in his hand. Pain in it is nothing new, but this was much worse than usual. It then travelled up his arm and across to his other arm, so hospital time! He wanted to do the driving and also pumped gas!

After repeating all his information about four times to different hospital staff, one asked him what he had for dinner. (That would cause pain in your hand?) Well, dinner was at Sam's (Wholesale Club), and he had a ham and cheese sub (about 7") and topped it with sauerkraut. What he really wanted, though, was a polish dog, so he went back up to the counter and ordered one of those also! And put sauerkraut on it! If he'd had a stomach or chest problem, that would've been the cause for sure! They sent me home from the hospital at 5 a.m. as he was being admitted, which is good, or we would have had to pay the bill!  Not bad!  So I went home planning on three hours sleep, but had to get up in the middle of it to call in to work.

He wasn't put in a room until around 4 p.m., and that's when I went to visit him.  Terrible weather on the way home from Grand Blanc, all ice.  Didn't go to mom's tonight, because I was so tired and the roads were horrendous.  Going to work tomorrow.

Monday, January 24, 2011

Monday.  All day.  Today is Gracie's 4th b'day.  Happy birthday to you, girlie!
Gracie in August with Baby Sister Emily.

Tonight we ate at Tom's (Classic Coney Island).  We split an order of hash, I don't remember which kind as there are about six.  It was potatoes, sausage, onions, green peppers, sliced mushrooms and cheese. Very good on a cold, snowy winter's day!

Sunday, January 23, 2011

Church this morning was in the basement, because the pilot light on the furnace had went out again and people felt it wasn't warming up quickly enough.  Of course, Amanda came in late and that was noticeable! Fortunately, it was during the offering!

After church, we went to the Clio McDonald's to check out the new Playplace and maybe get one of the Grand Opening deals.  Today it was pancakes though, and we were too late.  The Playplace is miserably cold.  The few tables are up against the icy windows.

I did laundry and played around on the internet all afternoon.  My brother was at my mom's in the evening, so I didn't have to go.  I made grilled ham & cheese sandwiches for dinner, and they were delicious.

Last time I looked, it was already three below at 9:00 p.m.

Saturday, January 22, 2011

I stayed home all day until it was time to go to my mother's.  It was just too cold to go out!

Friday, January 21, 2011

I have been so busy this week at work, working constantly with no time to take a breath!  That's usually the way I like it though.

For dinner, we had a medium pizza at Twin's with pepperoni and green peppers.  I met Gary there, as he was coming from a visit with Ron in Linwood.  He went on to the basketball game, and I went to my mother's.

Thursday, January 20, 2011

Tonight we ate at Uno's and I didn't even have a coupon I could use there!  I had the baked, stuffed chicken, which is filled with feta, mozzarella, broccoli, spinach, tomatoes, garlic and basil. It comes with two sides, and I chose a garden salad with bleu cheese dressing and a "skinless baked potato", which is topped with cheddar, bacon and sour cream.  This chicken dish is divine: filling and tasty.  Gary had sirloin steak tips.  They come with a side salad and two more sides, so he had the skinless baked potato and mashed cauliflower.  Everything was delicious, as usual, in a pleasant atmosphere.

Thursday Night, January 13, 2011

Tonight we ate at Fuddrucker's, because I had a Seize the Deal coupon:  $20 worth of food for $10.  I had my usual, a taco salad, this time with shredded chicken.  I also help myself from the Fresh Bar to a small serving of sauerkraut (always good there, as it cooks all day), salsa for my salad and pickles.  Why do their pickles always taste so good.  We also got a side of fries, simply because I love their cheese sauce!  Gary also had a taco salad, his with ground beef.  Our meals are always great at Fuddrucker's, and I love Seize the Deal!

Sunday, January 2, 2011

Sunday, January 2, 2011

Had a hard time getting up for church this morning, because Stray Black Kitty kept me awake most of the night! She starts out OK, sleeping at the foot of the bed, but later on starts getting right in my face, her whiskers touching my face!

Amanda had a flat tire on the way to church, so that'll have to be remedied tomorrow. Fortunately, it will be Doug's day off. Unfortunately, the tire was not budgeted for.

We ate breakfast at Naples in Montrose. I'm not usually that hungry after church, since I had my usual peanut butter on cinnamon raisin toast at 7:30 a.m. & an apple crisp bar and cookie at church.  So I just ordered bacon (3 slices) and rye toast.  Gary had blueberry pancakes that he said were very good. They'd better be in the home of the Blueberry Festival!

Did laundry, napped, and started my Keith Richards autobiography.  Had leftovers (beef rouladen and mashed potatoes) for dinner and then went to my mom's.

Saturday, January 1, 2011

Happy New Year, 2011

Stayed up until about 1:30 a.m. finishing my Portia de Rossi autobiography.  It was quite good.  Also had to get the house ready for tomorrow's dinner.  New Year's Eve doesn't interest me. Gary is making beef rouladen for New Year's dinner, which he always cooks. We also had canned German potato salad and boxed mashed potatoes, since this was a last minute plan. Also found out shortly before we ate, that he had invited some of his friends.  So that meant I had to do more cleaning while he left on an errand or two.  The house was quite noisy all day!
