Good day at work, as usual.  Did edp's 7th hour. Senor Lucky's for dinner. I had the cheapo ala carte wet burrito made with shredded chicken and no refried beans, $2.99!  Gary had his favorite pecan-encrusted chicken salad.  Then on to ma's, home and paid bills  :(   Started packing for the U.P. after 11:00!

Monday, September 27, 2010

My time at work each day goes so quickly, especially the afternoons. I worked with some 8th graders on their edp's today. I'll have them back to finish up tomorrow and start a new group next week.

After school, I went to Riverfront Optical to pick up my new glasses that have been in for weeks. The fit is too big, so I might have to get them adjusted unless I get used to them before I have that chance. There was no charge, and I thought I had one.

Fell asleep repeatedly while watching my tivo'd All My Children. When Gary finally got home from working at Wolcott's, we went to Twin's and split a chicken strips dinner.  One dinner is more than enough and we took plenty home to boot! I did buy an extra side of a baked potato today, just because it sounded good. Then I only ate one chicken strip. Split the side salad with Gary, as always.

Started raining lightly on my way to my mom's, but raining hard enough to put up the umbrella when I left there.

Tomorrow I have a follow-up appointment with the gynecologist tomorrow after my surgery a week before school started.  That means I'm a couple weeks late on that appointment.  Between going back to work and Brad's time in the hospital and his funeral, I just didn't get it done.

I think I'll have a bowl of Special K granola with milk for a treat while I watch Dancing With The Stars. This year's show is certainly better than last.  Last year I gave up watching it, because I just didn't care about anyone on there.

Got up and went to church by myself, as Gary had to make another pot of bean soup for Wolcott's Apple Fest.  He also got up early and made his famous Coney Island Chili to share with friends there.  Clark was very much a stinker in church today.  Really needed a nursery!  Served fellowship snacks after.  Today was my last day of doing that for awhile, as I had the month of September for fellowship and altar care.

Then I went to Vanity Fair in Birch Run to make a quick purchase.  Drove through McD for a hamburger and a dollar Diet Coke, because I really wanted something plain-ish after that very sweet pumpkin crunch.  Went on to Walmart to get a new razor, socks and deodorant for Mad's birthday (of course she doesn't need it as a 4th grader, but it's fun for her!) and eyeliner for me.

Then I headed to Wolcott's with black clouds hovering above.  Nothing became of them though.  Cool, fall day without much sunshine, but it was OK.

Gary got up early to make bean soup in the smaller open kettle for Wolcott's Apple Fest.  He almost hit a huge buck crossing the road in front of Nickerson's on Stanley Road at 6 a.m.

I ran to Penney's to use my $10 off a $10 or more purchase, buying a $30 item on sale for half off, making my price $4.  Then on to Kohl's for the same deal.  I found a green and white top that is perfect for green and white days at school.  Paid $6 for that, original price: $30.  Stopped at Aldi's to get supplies for my last Sunday of fellowship baking, as I had the month of September.  Last week's flowers were still fresh for the altar!  Drove through Taco Bell and got the new chicken flatbread sandwich and a senior pop for only $1!

After I got home, I began my baking.  I made a healthy dried cherry snack cake.  167 calories per piece if you cut it into 15 pieces, but I cut it into 24.  I did drizzle a confectioner's sugar/water glaze on, because it really needed it, mostly for looks.  Also made the pumpkin crunch dessert I made a couple weeks ago. Everyone loved it, so why not? It's basically a dump cake, and I top it with Heath butter brickle chips.

Watched the video, Dear John.  That has to be one of the most boring all time movies!

Today is Madilyn's 9th birthday, but her party won't be until a week from Sunday, and we'll be up north.

Gary got home from work at Wolcott's late (setting up for tomorrow's Apple Fest), so we made a quick stop to see Madilyn.  I gave her some Bath & Body Works items, which she loved.  The real gifts come later, Sunday or Monday.  Then we ate at Twin's, having a pizza with pepperoni and green peppers.

Then off to Ma's, while Gary went to the football game. (We won again.)  Amanda stopped by and, as they were leaving, Gracie laid down on the new kitchen carpet and threw up! Got to reminisce about cleaning that up after many decades!

Thursday Night, "Q Night", September 23, 2010

Another night of slim pickin's.  Q Night gave us the choice of Qdoba or Quiznos, and we opted for Qdoba in Grand Blanc.  When I described Qdoba to a friend, she said, "It sounds like the Subway of Mexican food!"  Close.  You do order your food at a counter similar to the one at Subway.  There are a lot of choices, such as four to six kinds of salsa.  I've ate there twice, and the other time was also when we were Eating Our Way Through The Alphabet.  Each time we spend $17 for the two of us, which included pop.  Not bad!  I had one of their combos, including tortilla soup (quite spicy, but in a good way) and a salad.  Gary had some kind of mixture of all kinds of things. I'm not doing too well here!  You can't just say the name of the dish, because you truly make it your own!

Was good to be in my own comfortable bed last night, but couldn't sleep, probably because it's back to work Tuesday, and I wish I knew what I was doing there.  Had a nice time at church.  Afterwards we headed for Denny's, as I wanted to get some meat and have dinner at home.  We drove through McDonald's in Otisville.

Spent time with Amanda & the kids, but didn't have the bag in the car that contained the videos and books we got for them.

For dinner we had the steak and corn on the cob from the grill and mashed potatoes.

Since we've been home from the UP I've uploaded and edited my pics, put several on pasty cam, put some on Facebook, blogged a lot, and more.  A lot of work!

Left at 11 a.m. to make the trip home on a somewhat rainy day.  Still good waves on the Big Lake.  In Marquette, along Highway 41, we spied some wind surfers having a great time:

We ate in Epoufette, on the north side of the road.  Pretty mundane food there lately.  I think in the future we should try one of the restaurants in Brevort.  Got home about 9:30 p.m.

Friday, September 3, 2010

This afternoon a rip-roarin' storm blew up on our Superior shore!  Great fun!  Didn't get any good pictures, as they were taken through the window.  It wouldn't have been a great idea to take the camera outside. Big waves and high winds!  We felt safe and cozy in the cottage with the heaters on, and every now and then a branch would hit the roof or a window.

We couldn't stay cooped up for long, though.  So we went in search of food, of course.  Gary had a hankerin' for a turtle sundae in Chassell, but it was closed when we got there.  Ended up in Tapiola at the Feed Mill Cafe, each of us having a piece of pie.  Nothing great.

Today we ate at the Ambassador in Houghton in the afternoon.  Had a conversation with the owner (who waited on us because they were swamped with college families) about my tostada pizza picture being used on the Keweenaw tourism website and their Facebook page.  He was very interested and I showed him the picture on my Ipod.  You'd think my tostada pizza would have been free today!!!

After eating, we walked the length of Downtown Houghton and back, stopping in a few shops, including the bookstore.

Today was Keweenaw day.  I was hoping the weather would prevail, because I really didn't want to go on a rainy day.

Of course, we ate at the Harbor Haus, me eating beef rouladen and Gary having planked whitefish.

Made the trip to the UP today for six days' vacation.  It's 96 degrees in Marquette at 4:00.  Ate at the Big Boy there.
