Friday, April 30

Beautiful day today! Highest temperature I saw was 81 degrees.

Since we didn't go out last night for date night, tonight was it. We ate at Lucky's in Davison. I don't like the dining area in Clio. It's like one large open room with all the tables crowded together. I had my usual Monterey Chicken (with no mushrooms). I get it with a side salad with bleu cheese dressing and German potatoes, which are large cubed potatoes, well-seasoned, with bacon and green onions and topped with a bit of sour cream. Lucky's bread is delicious, too!

Then I went to Wal-Mart to pick up my Easy VHS to DVD and then on to mom's. Anxious to get home & read my Facebook and try out my new gadget.

So now I have inserted the software and get a message saying "Setup has determined that your configuration does not support any of the included products"!  Doug!!! Am I ever going to get to put my videos from my camcorder on my computer?!!! For this I missed Wifeswap?

Thursday, April 29, 2010

Pretty day today and warm enough for now. Not much going on. It's date night, but Gary's date was with the school superintendent for a GISD dinner. He even has the right color socks on!

I'm excited to get my "Easy VHS to DVD", which is now in at Wal-Mart. Hope it solves my camcorder problem so I can put my videos on the computer.

Grey's Anatomy is on in 40 minutes, not a rerun.  Boy, those doctors sure have an exciting life. It's like the Wilderness Family of hospitals.  On that show their house would be on fire, while someone was sick with pneumonia, while there was a wolf on the roof, while a bear was coming in the back door. I should be smart and lay out my clothes for work before it comes on.

April 28, 2010 (Wednesday)

I almost didn't write tonight, but after reading a favorite journal written by a Copper Harbor online friend, I was inspired. Her blog can be found at aviewfromthefield.com. Her name is Sharon Smith. She had just returned to the Harbor from a dental appointment in Detroit where she used to live. Sharon stopped at Tahquamenon Falls on her way home. That is just about my least favorite falls, no personality. My favorite is Silver River, north of L'anse on the Aura Peninsula. You'll be hearing more about that this summer.  Maybe I should try to see if I can quickly find a picture of it? OK, that didn't go so well. I'll have to work on that later. When I upgraded to Windows 7, I misplaced some pictures. I'll have to go to my gallery at pasty.com and find them. (Search Marsha Galbraith.)

Well, I found it, and moved it. Took about two minutes!

Dinner was at Arby's, the turkey club sub, or whatever it's called. Very tasty.

Watched Idol, the final six.  I thought the bottom three should be Lee, Aaron, and Siobhan. The voters got Siobhan right anyway, and she is gone, thank goodness! I could not stand her screaming or her look.

Warm weather is coming!

Last night (actually 3:30 a.m. this morning) we got a call from Amanda.  A young woman was banging at her door during a downpour.  She said she was lost, someone had dropped her off and she thought she knew someone who lived at Amanda's house in the past.  Amanda called the state police, who said they couldn't help because it is not their duty "to transport".  So Doug and Gary took her to the bus station, as she already had a bus ticket.  Weird.

Went to church, of course.  Ate at Big Boy afterwards (Slim Jim for me, omelet for Gary).  I forgot the camera, but wasn't too concerned since it was rainy.  Saw guinea hens and turkeys!

Amanda's family surprised us with a visit.

Clark and Gracie enjoyed riding on Papa's feet. There are names for each type of bounce he gives them. One is called "snowman". They don't have to make sense!!!

I'm finally getting the housework accomplished, laundry, dishes, laying out clothes for work tomorrow.  I won't be going to my mom's tonight, because my sister is coming and she'll be taking her to her doctor's appointment tomorrow.

Saturday, April 24, 2010

Yay, I'm back on! Haven't been able to log in to my own blog for awhile and was so frustrated!

Tuesday I dropped Gary off at the track meet at the school behind our house and went on my way to my mom's. I came home and he arrived a bit later, and we watched American Idol. He said he ached all over and couldn't figure out why. At 12:30 a.m. he woke me up saying he thought he might be having a heart attack. He took a nitro, threw up, and we called the ambulance. By 4:00 a.m. test results were back and good, but they wanted to admit him and do a stress test Wednesday. I went home and tried to get an hour's sleep, and that didn't go too well. I had tests at my doctor's at 8:00 a.m.! Took the day off work and went home and tried to sleep, but once again that didn't go as planned. They took him for the stress test and an echocardiogram, which showed he could not have the stress test, I believe because of a valve problem and too much calcium around it. So they kept him that night also to do the nuclear stress test Thursday. That came out OK also, so he was released. I worked all day.

Ate at Applebee's on the way home, 2 for $20. Had the spinach/artichoke dip appetizer, always good and hot. I had my favorite Fiesta Lime Chicken.

Worked Friday and Gary went to the doctor and got set up for a referral to a cardiologist. Ate at Twin's, splitting a Greek Grinder, and bringing half home.

Saturday was the funeral for Dorothy Baker, an important and well-loved Genesee fixture who died at the age of 96. It was a lo-o-ong funeral and Gary, in his position as School Board President, eulogized her. He did very well, and kept it short! The only problem was that he had on tan socks with his grey suit, and it was very obvious! There was a nice dinner afterward at the school. We got home from that at 2:00 p.m. and had a meatloaf dinner at church at 4:00 p.m.! That was very good, and we enjoyed taking Amanda and the kids.

Then on to my mom's to watch Lawrence Welk with her. Left in time to make a quick trip to Penney's while it was still daylight. Bought two three-packs of onesies for Emily, the second pack being 88 cents. So I got six onesies for $14 in two different sizes, one for now and one for later.

So glad to be able to get back in here! I was beginning to think my blog was lost to updating forever!

Sunday, April 18

Went to our Methodist church, wearing warm clothes as temps were in the thirties in the morning.  Pastor Bruce is leaving July 1 and announced his new appointment. I hope that works out well for him and his wife.

Then we drove through the Otisville McDonald's and got McChickens and Diet Cokes, all from the dollar menu.  We continued on through the countryside east of there.  Took a few pictures, but didn't like any of them. Ten minutes after we got home, Amanda called and said "Meet me at McDonald's!"  So off we went.  Did a bad thing and took my pop cup (which still had Diet Coke in it) and refilled it after a bit.  Hey, I bought a hot fudge sundae!

Listened to the Tom Petty Greatest Hits cd all day in the car.  I downloaded it from Vuze.  It's very good! There were a few songs that I didn't realize were sung by him!

Weather ended up halfway decent and sunny.  Should be pretty good tomorrow, although not warm enough.

Saturday, April 17

Didn't get to laze around like I usually do on Saturday mornings, because I was babysitting for the 3 Rodman grandkids, while their mom took the baby for her six weeks' appointment with Dr. Karr.  She now weighs 9 lbs. 9 oz.   Also has reflux, which accounts for her spitting up much more than her siblings. The doctor thinks she might get past that by fall. The other three kids requested Stouffer's macaroni and cheese for breakfast, with toast!

I got done with all that before noon, so on to Kohl's, where I bought a navy print shirt and a turquoise (the stone, not the color) bracelet.  I needed that to match my new purse. The new shirt gives me something to wear with navy pants, because I am so over red, white & blue in clothing. It's a small navy and green print.

Then I went to Aldi's and got my mom's individual servings of jello, her devil's food cookies, and baby carrots and low-fat string cheese. The cheese tastes identical to regular string cheese.

Ate at Twin's, splitting a chicken strip dinner. Took home enough for each of us to have the chicken again Sunday afternoon! Four meals out of one dinner! I think the price is about $7.99, but I'm not sure.

Watched The Hangover, which was a laugh out loud movie! I thought I wouldn't like it, because it would be about a bunch of drunks, but actually it was about the day after. Funny stuff.

Thursday Night--Date Night

Ate at Uno in Birch Run again, but I'm not complaining!

I received a coupon via email since I'm a member of the "Insiders' Club".  We had to buy one entree from their new menu (cajun or New Orleans-style food) and our other entree would be free.  Gary ordered a full slab of ribs, and proclaimed it the biggest serving of ribs he's had anywhere ever!

I had the same thing as last week, Baked Stuffed Chicken.  We both had a side of "skinless bakes".  His salad was Caesar and mine was house with bleu cheese.

Temps were in the high eighties today, and dropping tomorrow.  But, hey, it's April!

Tuesday, April 13

Beautiful day, warmer tomorrow! Is spring actually here?

Enjoyed working with my junior high kids, as I usually do.  They can be really bratty sometimes, but I like 'em anyway, and they like me.

Had a meeting after school with more discussion on how to deal with upcoming budget cuts.  Next year will be interesting!  What will I be doing?  I hope I can still work directly with those junior high kids.  They definitely need it.

Gary had a meeting with a catered dinner, and I had a craving for Greek hash from Tom's Coney Island in Genesee, so I picked up a takeout order.  It hit the spot as intended!

American Idol featured songs by Elvis tonight.  Not too bad.  Casey is my favorite, although his version of Lawdy Miss Clawdy bore no resemblance to the Elvis version. Crystal and Big Mike were also good.

April 11, 2010

Spent my last day of spring break making the two-hour trek to Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, Michigan to see the butterfly exhibit, which is only there for two months.

The indoor exhibit is a photographer's dream.  There are more than 6,000 butterflies from all over the world. The display of exotic flowers is beautiful.

Outdoors you can walk through many different gardens, which were blooming with springtime flowers.

There are waterplay areas for dads and other children.

There are many sculptures adorning the grounds.  The Chihuly Exhibit will be arriving soon.

Then we took a side trip to Holland and had lunch at the 8th Street Grille.  Gary had pot roast, which looked delectable.  I had the 1/2 salad and 1/2 sandwich combo, which was actually huge.

Spotted this ice cream shop on the way home.

April 10, 2010

Spring break is winding down, and today was my last day of lazing around in the morning. Got ready and ran to Penney's to buy t-shirts for Grant and Carter's May and July birthdays. Went in Dollar Tree, nothing thrilling there.

On to Amanda's and held the baby and held the fort (down) while she mopped the kitchen and did laundry. Clark was wound up today. Remote is still missing. Offered Gracie a quarter to find it, and she's working on it.

Home in time to head out to Senor Lucky's in Davison.  They have the best Mexican food and the best music (from the seventies).  No charge for the chips and yummy salsa.  I have learned to get the ala carte shredded beef burrito for only $2.99! Why pay a lot for the same thing on a plate of rice? Gary often gets the pecan-crusted chicken salad, which has bleu cheese, dried cranberries, and raspberry vinaigrette dressing.

Delivered a large basket of Daniel O'Donnell video tapes to my mom, courtesy of my old friend, Annette. She'll love them, and it was nice of Annette to think of us!

Tomorrow we are planning to go to the new butterfly exhibit at Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids.  There are over 6,000 butterflies flying free (but not for free!).  Gary is going to wear one of his Hawaiian shirts to attract them!  Sounds like fun!  Pictures forthcoming.

The weather turned out beautifully today, sunny and temperatures at 65 degrees.

April 9, 2010

Went to Uno in Birch Run last night and enjoyed the baked, stuffed chicken, which comes with two sides.  The chicken is stuffed with feta, mozzarella, broccoli, spinach, tomatoes, garlic and basil.  So delicious! Everything there is very flavorful.  Gary had the sirloin tips, and that comes with three sides.  Be sure to sign up on their website and receive a coupon for a free appetizer and get regular emails with discounts, birthday deals, and more.

Tonight we ate at Twin's in Clio, as we always do on Fridays.  They have a punch card there, and tonight we got our free medium pepperoni pizza, adding green peppers.  Their waitresses are the best.  Gary always takes them candy!

April 7, 2010

Most of today was rainy and chilly. Tomorrow will be colder, and snow is expected! Wasn't it just 80 degrees a week ago?

It was a good day to make my chicken potpie, which is a Weight Watcher's recipe (until I add extra cheese!).  I double the recipe and use a 13 x 9 pan. This is comfort food at it's best. The dry mustard is very important to the flavor; don't leave it out!

Chicken, Cheese 'n' Biscuits

1 T. plus 1 t. margarine
2 T. plus 2 t. flour
1/2 t. powdered dry mustard
1/4 t. rubbed sage
1-1/2 c. skim milk
1 packet instant chicken broth and seasoning mix
pepper
4 oz. shredded cheddar cheese
8 oz. cooked, diced chicken
1 c. each sliced carrots, peas, corn or whatever
vegetables you like in whatever proportions
10 refrigerated, ready-to-bake flaky biscuits

In 3-qt. saucepan, heat margarine over medium heat until bubbly & hot. Add flour, mustard and sage. Stirring constantly, slowly add milk. Add broth mix and pepper, stirring until thick. Add cheese and stir until melted.  Add chicken and vegetables, cooking until heated through.

Preheat oven to 400. Spray 1-1/2 qt. casserole and pour in mixture.  Separate each biscuit into two layers and arrange on top. Bake until biscuits are golden, about 7 to 10 minutes.

I took this dish to church potluck tonight. Everyone likes it, even the kids! No onions or green peppers!

I gave Amanda the quilt my high school best friend, Pam, made for baby Emily.  I hadn't seen Pam since then and we reconnected on Facebook a year ago.  She lives in Arizona now. What a nice thing for her to do!

April 6, 2010

Enjoyed rockin' & rollin' thunderstorms last night, but forgot about them when I woke up until someone reminded me via a phone call.  Rainy day, made a trip to the post office just in time before a deluge.  Was excited to get a package from my high school friend, Pam, whom I've been out of touch with since high school! It was a beautiful, handmade quilt for my new grandbaby, Emily!  I'm overwhelmed with her thoughtfulness!  Maybe I'll have a picture of it tomorrow.  It's so exciting to reconnect with old friends on Facebook!

Went to Logan's for dinner, 2 for $13.99 Monday thru Wednesday.  I usually get their mesquite grilled chicken.  Tonight Gary enjoyed the salmon.  Love their yeast rolls, but must limit myself to one!  I think it's cool how they feed the birds right next to the front door.  I wonder if all Logan's do that, or just our local one?

The weather got very nice, though humid, at 6:00 p.m. when I went to my mother's.  Decided a new favorite drivin' song is Roll Me Away by Bob Seger.  Crank it up!

Potluck at church tomorrow.  I think I'll make a big chicken potpie.

April 5, 2010

OK, I'm going to try to get back into this! Enjoyed two country drives yesterday after church! In the afternoon we visited Christen at the deli she manages. She made me a delicious turkey croissant with three cheeses. Headed east from there into the country and met this cow who was begging to be photographed!

It's the day after Easter, and I'm enjoying my spring break. Still beautiful weather, about 70 and sunny! Did the laundry, babysat for 3 Rodmans while their mom grocery shopped with baby Emily, one month old today! Fiddled around outside a little, too.

Ate at Twin's, splitting a chef's salad and having plenty left to bring home. Stopped at Dotty's to buy thistle and a metal thistle feeder that can't be destroyed by squirrels, I hope!

Spent considerable time trying to put videos from my camcorder on the computer, to no avail. I need the CD that was supposed to come with the camcorder and do not have or cannot find it. Cannot download it from sony.com, so I broke down and called them. $30 for a new one plus shipping and handling said the girl located in the Phillipines! Not doing that! I'll figure something out!

Hope we have beautiful weather again tomorrow, and I'll have Gary put up all birdhouses that have blown down. I'm in the mood for birds!
